WORK, EFFORT and RECOGNITION

Nury Barragán was born in Colombia, in Santafé de Bogotá. When she was only five, her parents detected her artistic talents and her sports abilities.

Nury Barragán first practised artistic gymnastics and yoga, then she was attracted to the world of dance: she felt that she needed to upgrade her skills in ballet dance, modern jazz, modern dance and folk dance.

Nury Barragánsoon joined various companies: the BALLET NACIONAL DE COLOMBIA – an ambassador for Colombian identity all around the world –, the BALLET TIERRA COLOMBIANA and the BALLET FOLKLORICO COLOMBIANO. Such collaboration led her to perform at the most important international dance venues as a prima ballerina.

Having acquired rich and varied working experience on the five continents, Nury Barragán decided to share her knowledge with children, adults and seniors, including differently-able people.

At the same time in the 90s, Nury Barragán set up her own Dance Company in Colombia.

She had the opportunity to appear on the national TV channels in Colombia, to perform in live music clubs and cabarets, in musicals and sporting events, and also in prestigious shows and entertainment events as a special guest.

Since she was keen on sports and endowed with a competitive spirit, Nury Barragán tarted competing in artistic gymnastics events where she could develop her acrobatic skills. In 1994, she became three times national and international champion in the category of sport aerobics and sport dancing, while participating in marathons of up to 2,500 contestants.

After that, Nury Barragán obtained professional certifications in Fitness, Sports Medicine, Aqua Gym and Aqua Fitness, Stretching and Relaxation Techniques, and she was licensed to judge Aerobic and Artistic Gymnastics competitions.

She became a Fitness Instructor and a Zumba Fitness Instructor; she gave lectures and presentations in International Conferences on Aerobic Gymnastics and Dance Aerobic Marathons; she generated and wrote several projects (Folklore applied to Aerobics); she was an Artistic Gymnastics Championship Judge; she taught elderly Relaxation and Meditation Techniques; and last, but not least, she trained students in their final year of studies in the field of Gerontology (research topic: Corrective and Preventive Gymnastics for the Elderly).

In 1997, Nury Barragán left her native country, Colombia, and moved to Europe. As a first step, she settled in Milan, Italy, before signing a contract in Paris.

The human factor has always been at the core of her activity. In Colombia and in France, Nury Barragán has dedicated her time to volunteer work: she has offered disabled persons in charitable institutes or rehabilitation centres her experience and knowledge as a qualified Dance Teacher and Zumba Fitness Instructor.

Her dream has finally come true: she has now opened her own dance academy! A Latin school where she develops a wide range of Latin dances, traditional dances from her homeland, Colombia, and the different types of Zumba.
